We are failing to address our 40-billion-tonne annual emissions baseline — to say nothing of the historical legacy debt of hundreds of billions of tonnes of CO² released into our atmosphere since the industrial revolution.

What’s ironic is that instead of fixing our problem, each year we’re making it harder for ourselves to do so.
Since the industrial revolution the temperature on our planet has been rising steadily and what used to be nice and cool places, like Northern Europe, are now so hot that they all need air conditioning in their homes and offices. So the hotter it gets, the more energy we use to cool ourselves down again and the more emissions we put out!
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to guess accurately what will happen to our emissions as more and more countries industrialise and more and more people want to live like those in the West.
Expecting eight billion people to sacrifice their lifestyle and change their behaviour isn't just unrealistic — it’s comprehensively failed.
Global emissions keep rising because changing our daily behavior is uncomfortable. Some people like air travel and loud cars! We also need our heavy industries.
Beyond the Accounting Mirage
The Paper Illusion:
Since the Paris Agreement, the world has built a multi-billion dollar accounting ecosystem, but it has failed to build a physical tool.
The sum total of actual permanently removed CO² over the past decade is significantly less than even a single gigatonne.
So, billions of dollars have changed hands on paper, but our actual atmosphere hasn’t noticed.
