The best people want to work on the hardest, most meaningful problems

That’s what Smash is all about.

We bring together exceptional minds across science, technology, business, operations, law and finance — because that’s what it takes to translate scientific innovation into real-world success.

Smash is structured to attract, empower, and retain individuals with deep domain expertise and a shared bias for action. Many of our contributors are still active in their primary research or commercial roles.

They choose to work with Smash because of the calibre of the technologies, the quality of execution, and the seriousness of our ambition.

Sebastian Hybbinette - Founder of Smash

Meet the Founder

Sebastian has led across the full lifecycle of company-building — from strategy and technology to operations, financial oversight, and exit. He has successfully guided organisations at the intersection of complex systems, commercial delivery, and monetisation.

Having built his career in a global investment bank, Sebastian went on to found, scale, and exit two businesses. Across these ventures, he built an organisation of over 2,000 team members and played a pivotal role in achieving the monetisation of a market-leading technology company.

Today, Sebastian contributes to ambitious infrastructure projects, and is shaping the next wave of technical products through multiple deep-tech initiatives, including Silicon Catalyst and Cambridge Future Tech.

To unlock the full value of scientific innovation, you need more than investment — you need hands-on execution. Sebastian leads the team at Smash with a belief in fast, grounded delivery — and in creating products that matter.

“You must be able to see far enough into the future to reimagine what we take for granted today — and then execute, without letting the distance become a distraction.”

Sebastian | Smash Founder

  • In 1764, James Hargreaves built a simple wooden frame that could spin multiple threads at once. The “Spinning Jenny” seemed unremarkable to most, yet within decades it had transformed Britain’s textile industry, fuelled the Industrial Revolution, and shifted the balance of economic power across the globe.

So that is how true technological revolutions begin - quietly, almost invisibly.

By now technology has changed our world in ways previous generations could scarcely imagine. Today, breakthroughs in AI, advanced materials, quantum computing, and biotechnology are yet again redefining the foundations of power and progress. And, as before, these shifts rarely announce themselves with spectacle — you have to listen for the signal beneath the noise.

Technological leadership defines strategic, economic and societal influence. So, in a world where the future belongs to those who lead in technology, we must ask ourselves: how do we lead? True leadership in technology requires imagination, foresight, and disciplined execution - you must be willing to look far enough into the future to reconsider what we take for granted today, and then deliver with precision and without letting the distance become a distraction.

At Smash, we bring together deep technical and commercial expertise with disciplined execution. We measure ourselves by outcomes, not optics: Do our products gain traction? Do they shift industries? Do they create lasting value?

We aim to define not just what’s next, but what’s possible. Our ambition is to shape the most promising science-based innovations into products that set new standards — creating solutions that endure, and value that compounds over decades.
